Where Bipolaris Mold Grows:
The Bipolaris genus of mold includes 20 plus species. It thrives in semi-dry environments and spores can be distributed by wind or disturbance. Bipolaris is typically found in and on plants, debris, soil, grasses and other surfaces. Typical surfaces Bipolars can grow on in your home or business may be:

What Bipolaris Mold Looks Like:
Bipolaris colonies are typically fast growing and range in color from white to brown and once mature from olive green to black. Most species have dark pigment. Bipolaris can have a suede-like texture or look velvety or wooly.

The three Bipolaris species that are known to be pathogenic to humans are B. Australiensis, B. Hawaiiensis and B. Spicifera. Bipolaris is one of the causes of Phaeohyphomycosis. It has been found that Bipolaris can infect both immuno-comprimised and immuno-competent (healthy) individuals.
