Secure your property and leave if necessary
Safety is of upmost importance, follow these guidelines step-by-step.
The first step to successfully cleaning up water damage is to secure the safety of occupants.
- If you are in a life threatening situation, immediately call 911.
- If there is standing water, leave the room for dry ground.
- Ensure the building is safe, don't go into rooms where water has been sitting.
- If the entire building is affected, make immediate plans for shelter.
- If the area is dry, turn off the main circuit breaker. (Don't if it is surrounded by water)
- Shut off any natural gas supply lines. (Usually near the main gas meter)
- Turn of the main water supply. (This will stop any leaks from pipe breaks)
