Most of us become very concerned when we think that the air we are breathing is contaminated with mold. Mold conjures up images of us sneezing, wheezing, and coughing. Just the very thought of it is sometimes enough to make our allergies go haywire.
We have done hundreds of mold tests in Tampa and what we have found might shock you. In every home we’ve tested for mold, the tests have come back positive. That’s right, every home had mold spores. Some had a little, some had a lot, but every home has some! Having some mold spores is natural; having high concentrations of them or the wrong types inside your home is not.
If you are going to have a mold test done, please make sure it is with an Indoor Air Quality professional. Home inspectors sometimes offer mold tests, but usually they are not IAQ professionals. Make sure whoever you use is certified with the State of Florida as a Licensed Mold Assessor.

Just because someone has the equipment to take an air sample, doesn’t mean you should trust them to be able to interpret the results. Here are a few questions you should ask:
- How long have you been an IAQ Professional?
- Do you have any recommendations?
- If I have mold, do you also write a remediation protocol? Are you licensed to do so?
- If I have mold, do you tell me WHY it’s there?
- How do I know the mold won’t just come back?
